Guanacaste is a province of Costa Rica located in the northwestern side of the country, along the coast of the Pacific Ocean.  The province is named after the Guanacaste tree, also known as the ear pod tree.  This tree was declared on 1959 the national tree of Costa Rica.

Guanacaste has the best beaches of Costa Rica, however not all of the attractions in this area have to do with the blue ocean, there are also pristine rivers, volcanoes, important protected areas and national parks.  There are more than a dozen different habitats including mangroves, swamps and evergreen and dry forests, refuge for birds and wildlife, featuring impressive vegetation, bubbling mud holes, refreshing river pools and waterfalls.
